New pattern coming up soon! |
When you knit a Latvian braid you keep your yarn in front of your work, purl and depending on how you twist your yarn you make the stitches lean right or left. A combination of rounds creates a braidstructure. You can even make the braids go in different directions, like in the picture above.
Start by casting on even amount of stitches by either using the twocolor cast on or a cast on by your choice.
Round 1) * k 1 with yarn A, k 1 with yarn B* till end of round. |
Round 2) The yarn is held in front of your work all through round 2-3 and both rounds are purled. |
To make the stitch lean to the right , take the strand of yarn you are going to use for the next stitch, in my case yarn A, UNDER yarn B, still in the front of you work and purl. |
Next stitch is in yarn B. Bring the strand under yarn A and purl. |
Continue like this till the end of the round. Make sure the yarn you are going to use for next stitch is brought UNDER the previous strand and remember to purl all stitches. |
Now it´s time to finish the braid.
Round 3) Keep the yarn in front of your work as in previous round. To make the stitch lean to the left, bring the strand of yarn you are going to use for next stitch OVER the previous one. |
So, the yarn you are going to use is brought OVER the yarn you just used . Yarn in front and purl. |
Round 4) Knit as in round 1; *k 1 with yarn A, k 1 with yarn B* |
You are done!
To make the braid in the other direction you switch round 2 and 3, like this.
rnd 1) *k 1with yarn A, k 1 with yarn B*
rnd 2) the yarn you are going to use is brought OVER the yarn of prev. stitch = stitch leans to the left.
rnd 3) the yarn you are going to use is brought UNDER the yarn of prev. stitch=stitch leans to the right.
rnd 4) knit as round 1
